Personal writing is writing we do for a personal reason. Sometimes this writing is private and sometimes it is for others to read. Blogs and tweets are a modern form of journal writing. Today we can keep up-to-date with everyday life in space by reading tweets and blogs written by people living on the ISS. A blog is a type of journal.
1. How did the king react when his daughter compared her love to salt? Why?
Furious, because his daughter compared her love to salt, a common substance, instead of gold or diamonds.
2. Why did the king become so ill?
Loss of appetite and poor health because of the lack of salt.
3. How did he get better?
From eating salty broth.
4. What did he realise at the end?
Salt is more valuable than gold and diamonds because it gives life.
Topic: Style
Style is the way a text is written. The style of a text can be personal or impersonal, depending on the purpose.
Examples of text types that are personal:
1. A text message from a friend
2. A personal diary
Examples of text types that are impersonal:
1. A recipe
2. A bus timetable

Features of instructions:
*the headings
*the list of materials
*the numbered sreps
*the command verbs
*the impersonal stle
*the second person narrative (you)
The order of the steps is very important. Instructions look as if there is no subject because the subject word is not always included, only implied.
The verbs at the beginning of each instruction are called command verbs.
